City pair in race to be fit

City midfielders Carl Baker and Billy Daniels could miss out against Stevenage but Pressley has a replacement in mind

Sky Blues midfield duo Carl Baker and Billy Daniels face a race to be fit for Saturday's trip to Stevenage according to boss Steven Pressley.

Both were absent from the squad in last Sunday's 2-0 home defeat to Brentford with respective calf and hip injuries and while Pressley said he would not rule anything out, he conceded that the weekend trip to the Lamex may come slightly too soon for the pair.

"We obviously have doubts over Carl and Billy still and, although they are making progress, whether tomorrow will be too soon we'll find out in the next 24 hours because we want to give them every opportunity.

"Apart from that we are okay in terms of injuries although the possible absence of Carl and Billy gives other players an opportunity."

Pressley hinted that one of those players could Adam Barton who played the first 45 minutes of City's defeat to the Bees at Sixfields last weekend.

The Sky Blues manager said that Barton was unlucky to find himself in a position where he became the victim of a half-time tactical change against Brentford and that he admired the youngster's patience and ability.

"Adam has worked ever so hard during the season and in pre-season and he's been very, very patient," Pressley added.

"He's a player I admire so he could be the ideal replacement for Baker or Daniels because he'sa good technical footballer who can bring a good balance to the team."
