Higham Lane Girls win Community Cup and place in the regional finals

The annual Football League Girls Community Cup took place at Centre AT7 last Friday (22nd November).

12 secondary schools entered from across Coventry and Warwickshire, with a total of 13 teams fighting it out to be crowned Coventry City Girls Under 13 champions for 2013.

The group stages were keenly contested with President Kennedy, Cardinal Newman, Higham Lane and Bishop Ullathorne going through to the semi-finals.

Cardinal Newman overcame President Kennedy 3-1 in the first semi-final, with Higham Lane inflicting a 4-1 defeat on Bishop Ullathorne in the second game.

A close fought final saw Higham Lane run out 2-0 victors over Bishop Ullathorne – with Higham now going on to represent Coventry City in the regional finals at Shrewsbury Town on January 13th.

The girls will be hoping to emulate Chetwyn Junior School, who won the local boys competition last year, before going on to secure victory at the regional finals – eventually contesting the national final at Wembley Stadium before this year’s Johnson’s Paint Trophy Final.

The boys Under 11 schools competition takes place on Thursday 16th January and is open to schools from Coventry and Warwickshire.

If you would like to find out about how to enter a school into the competition please contact the Sky Blues in the Community office on 024 7678 6349.
