'We are fully focused on winning'

Cyrus Christie wants the current form to continue at Fratton Park...

Coventry City defender Cyrus Christie has confirmed the entire squad is 'focused on the football' ahead of the League One clash with Portsmouth.

The Sky Blues are currently three points off the play-off positions having enjoyed an unbeaten start under manager Steven Pressley.

Coventry have won two out of three games Pressley has been in charge, and face a trip to relegation-threatened Portsmouth tomorrow.

Christie, who has made 33 appearances already this season, says the squad are fully focused on maintaining their current form in League One.

The City right-back said: "On the pitch, it has been going really well lately. Steven Pressley has come in and he is a great manager.

"His philosophy suits the way most of the players want to play football and you can tell it is working on the pitch with the clean sheet we kept last week.

"He wants us to be comfortable under pressure with the ball and that can be the difference in this league. He has been implementing his style of play and we are all very positive about the remaining games.

"The whole squad wants to achieve and do well, and considering the start we had this season, we have done really well to get in the play-off race."

Carl Baker will be out for the trip to Fratton Park and Christie acknowledges it is a blow, but believes the quality will step up to replace the captain.

He added: "I have a good partnership with Carl (Baker) so it will be a shame for him to miss out but there are plenty of players in the squad who can take his position.

"The captain has probably been one of the players of the season so far with his goals and assists from midfield.

"But with the likes of John Fleck and David Bell, we have quality ready to come in and they are great players as well.

"It will be a tough game because they are down there fighting for their lives but if we play the way we can, I am sure we will come out on top."
