Academy manager Gregor Rioch pleased with what he saw in Under 17s home draw with Man Utd

Coventry City Under 17s gave Academy manager Gregor Rioch plenty of food for thought on Tuesday when they recorded a 1-1 friendly draw with Manchester United Under 17s.

The Sky Blues hosted United at the Alan Higgs Centre and were only denied a win by an equaliser two minutes from time after a Courtney Baker-Richardson header from a corner gave City a tenth minute lead.

Ricoh said: "Around this time of year we try and put a couple of friendlies together for the Under 17s to give us a feel for the kind of group we will have in the Under 18s next season.

"The game featured Under 16s and 17s that we will have on our books for next year and they acquitted themselves really well and it's suggests exciting times for next season.

"It was just a bit of a blow for the lads to concede an equaliser so late on because they gave a good performance against a top outfit.

"From a coach's perspective though it gives us valuable insight into the group we will be working with next season and based on what we saw on Tuesday we're really looking forward to it."
