City right-back Aaron Phillips expressed his delight at signing a new deal with the club...
Coventry City right-back Aaron Phillips hopes he can continue to improve after signing a new one-year deal with the club.
Phillips, son of 1987 FA Cup winning team member Dave Phillips, was back for the first day of pre-season, penning the deal ahead of the 2013/14 League One season.
The 19-year old enjoyed a productive loan spell at Blue Square Premier side Nuneaton Town last season and he wants to push on this season with City.
Phillips said: "I am absolutely delighted to sign a new deal with the club. I have been here for around ten years now and for me to continue my career is great.
"I really want to well for the club and do well next season. The loan spell with Nuneaton last season really helped me in my progression as I was playing men's football.
"Going into this season, I just want to play as many games as I can and make an impression. We have a good side at the club and I want to be part of a successful side.
"It was great to be back for the start of pre-season. It was a tough day, especially with yo-yo test but it all goes into making us ready for the new season."
With the first pre-season game against Nuneaton Town, Phillips won't have to wait long to return to Liberty Way and hopes he can cap his return with a goal.
He continued: "I am very grateful to Nuneaton as they gave me a great experience and I am sure that helped me get a new deal here.
"It will be great to go back there but I hope I can score as it would be nice. We have a good pre-season schedule in which we will be testing ourselves against some very good opposition, especially in Holland.
"There is a lot to look forward to, especially with it being the first full season under Steven Pressley so I can't wait to get started."
