Sky Blues get a week of four friendlies off to a good start with goals from Leon Clarke and Cyrus Christie

Coventry City got a hectic week of four pre-season friendlies off to a good start with a 2-0 win over League Two side Cheltenham Town.

Leon Clarke gave the Sky Blues a one-goal half-time cushion with a superb top corner finish and Cyrsu Christie added a second with his last contribution of the game 17 minutes from time.

The game was only two minutes old when Leon Lobjoit got his eye in, cutting in from the left wing to try his luck from 20 yards only for Town 'keeper Scott Brown to clutch the ball to his chest.

Clarke  then went close himself three minutes later after pinching a ball off Sido Jombati, who thought it had gone out of play, cutting into the area and aiming for the far corner with Brown tipping the ball onto the post.

Brown was required again after 22 minutes when Billy Daniels played a short through ball to Callum Wilson who was denied by a point-blank save from ten yards.

It was a busy half for Brown who was required again on two minutes later, this time to deny Daniels who had a dig from 25 yards and caused Brown to spill his stop only for the 'keeper to recover and pounce on the loose ball.

Brown could do nothing about the opener though when Daniels played a ball through to Clarke who turned, took a touch and then bent a finsih beyond the reach of the 'keeper into the top corner.

The second half was quieter by comparison but did get off to a swift start when, four minutes after the restart, Baker went on a run from midfield and finsihed with a shot from the edge of the area that Brown got down to collect.

Christie added a deserved second for City on 73 minutes though when he was played down the right flank by Wilson and cut inside before driving into the area and smashing a finish past Brown and inside the far post.

The goal signalled wholesale changes for boss Steven Pressley who made all five available outfield substitutions with 15 minutes to go to give the club's younger prospects a chance to taste first team action.

His faith was not misplaced as the younger Sky Blues line-up saw out the game with the clean sheet intact.
