Sky Blues in the Community in the running for Pride of Coventry and Warwickshire Community Awards

Sky Blues in the Community are celebrating after making the shortlist for the Pride of Coventry and Warwickshire Community Awards, sponsored by the Coventry Telegraph.

The annual awards ceremony recognises the contribution of individuals and not-for-profit organisations who work tirelessly to make a difference in the local community. The community team are nominated in the ‘Community Project of the Year’ category as a result delivering sport, health and personal development programmes to over 16,000 individuals during 2012.

Joint Head of Community David Busst said “It is a real honour to have been nominated for this award, let alone to make the shortlist.

“There are some fantastic individuals and organisations that are really making a difference in the local community, and for ourselves to be recognised as one of those organisations is a testament to the incredible amount of hard work of our staff put in during 2012.

“People often think that we just deliver football and only work with children, but over the last 12 months we have delivered a huge range of projects and activities to people of all ages across our themes of sport, health, education and inclusion.”

Guy Rippon who heads up Sky Blues in the Community with David added: “It has been a real period for growth and development of the community scheme. We have managed to bring in a number of grants over the last 12 months that has really seen a significant investment through our work into community projects in Coventry and Warwickshire.”

The Sky Blues Chair of Trustees Joe Elliott has also been nominated in the ‘Local Hero’ category for his chartable work, which includes SBitC, as well as being Chairman of Coventry Transport Museum, a trustee of the Alan Higgs Centre and Jaguar Heritage Trust, as well as being a member of the Coventry NSPCC Business Group and governor of All Saints School.
