Coventry City Development Director Steve Waggott has stressed the importance of getting the next appointment right after Mark Robins’ departure to Huddersfield Town.
Robins has joined Huddersfield Town after an official approach was made to the Sky Blues by the Championship side, and will take his first team coach Steve Taylor with him.
He leaves the side currently in 8th position in League One and just seven points off the play-off positions.
Waggott confirmed he has already had applicants get in touch about the position and believes it is an ‘attractive proposition’ in football.
The City Development Director said: “It is a new chapter we have to look forward to and the search is already on for the new first team manager.
“I think Coventry City will always be a very attractive proposition. Despite our relegation and early form in League One, I still managed to get 75 applicants five months ago.
“I closed that folder and didn’t think I would have to reopen it for quite a while but unfortunately, in this world of a managerial merry-go-round, we are going to have to reopen the search.
“There will be new applicants from managers who have just lost their jobs and I have already had calls from previous applicants wanting to be reconsidered for the job.
“My phone hasn’t stopped ringing but we have to make sure we get the right person in to take on what is a great job in football.”
Waggott continued saying he believes Robins has left ‘a great platform’ for the next manager to come in and achieve success.
He added: “To be fair to Mark (Robins), he has built a great platform at Coventry City. The side are just outside the play-off positions so when we decide who the next person is to come in and take the job, we have to make sure he is the right one to take the baton.
“That person needs to be the right person to get us back where we need to be. We can build on our current position to push on into those promotion spots and I think we have a squad capable of doing that.
“It is a blow to lose your manager at the business end of the season but there is no time to feel sorry for ourselves and we have to be positive about the future.”
