Under-18s share eight goals with Owls

Coventry City Under-18s were involved in a classic 4-4 draw at Sheffield Wednesday...

Coventry City Under-18s were involved in an incredible 4-4 draw in Gregor Rioch's last game as Academy Manager.

The Sky Blues traveled to Sheffield Wednesday with a young squad because many of the squad had been involved in Friday's Under-21s match at Nottingham Forest.

The home side enjoyed the brighter start to the game but it was City which found a break-through in the 19th minute as Bassala Sambou found the net from close range.

City could have doubled their lead from the penalty spot but Devon Kelly-Evans smashed his penalty against the crossbar in the 37th minute.

The Sky Blues did go 2-0 up just minutes later though as Tom King found the top corner from outside the area.

As the game approached half-time, Wednesday got themselves back into the game from a well-worked free-kick which saw Jack Stobbs fire home from outside the area.

Nine minutes after the break, Wednesday pulled themselves level through Frank Betra when nodded home from a right-sided corner.

City kept pushing forward and went ahead again in the 67th minute as substitute Courtney Baker-Richardson found the bottom corner from the edge of the area after good work from Devon Kelly-Evans.

The Owls responded just two minutes later to make the game 3-3 after a good counter-attack was finished by Betra.

Both sides pushed for the victory and with 15 minutes remaining, City midfielder Ben Stevenson scored the goal of the game to make it 3-4. Jack Finch broke out from defence, found King on the left who crossed towards the edge of the area and Stevenson smashed the ball into the top corner.

City looked as though they would seal all three points but Wednesday struck back three minutes later as Warren Clarke netted from close range.

City did score with five minutes remaining but it was disallowed for offside as both sides shared the points in a classic match.
