'Leon is in contention' - Pressley

13 December 2013

City boss Steven Pressley has confirmed Leon Clarke returns to contention for the match against Crewe Alexandra...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley will have a selection headache this weekend as he prepares his to face Crewe Alexandra.

Striker Leon Clarke has returned to first-team training this week and loan pair Chris Dagnall and Chris Maguire are in contention having been ineligible for the FA Cup second round fixture against Hartlepool United.

Callum Wilson was suspended for the match against the Pool but he returns to contention as City look to get back-to-back league wins.

The City boss confirmed centre-back Jordan Willis is still out with a knee injury but otherwise, the City squad is at full strength.

Pressley said: "I will have a lot of headaches this weekend as we are at full strength with the exception of Jordan Willis.

"Leon (Clarke) has trained this week and done very well, looking extremely sharp, so he definitely comes back into the reckoning this weekend.

"The two loan players, who definitely boosted the side at MK Dons, are eligible for the weekend's game.

"There are a number of decisions to make which is nice as we now have a lot of competition in the squad which will only raise the standards further."

With the busy Christmas period ahead, where City play seven games in 21 days, Pressley believes the depth in the current squad will be crucial.

He added: "We have a lot of games coming up and against some very difficult sides who will be up there towards the end of the season.

"We have to manage the side through this period. I will have to look at the games themselves and the personnel which will be available.

"It is important I make the correct decisions so we can get the best out of our players over this period."
