Pressley refutes newspaper claims

5 August 2013

City boss Steven Pressley has denied claims the club are looking to sell Carl Baker, Leon Clarke and Joe Murphy...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley denied claims there are any immediate plans to sell captain Carl Baker, goalkeeper Joe Murphy and striker Leon Clarke.

All three played in the weekend's match against Crawley Town where City lost 3-2 at the Broadfield Stadium despite goals from Callum Wilson and Franck Moussa.

The club was reported to be looking to sell the three players in a national newspaper at the weekend, but the City boss moved to refute those claims.

Answering whether there was any truth in the claims, Pressley answered: "No. Just to clear up that issue, the meeting I had with those players (Baker, Murphy and Clarke) was purely a man-management meeting.

"They're my three senior players who I have the utmost respect for. They have been great since I have been at the club and the most important thing is that they are at a different stage of their careers than our young players.

"They might have different aspirations to what the club is currently going through at the moment. I thought it was important I talked with them about that.

"The response from the players was a very positive one. My understanding is that they do want to stay and I have not had any direction to sell them."
