Today marks the 130th anniversary of Coventry City Football Club since being founded as Singers FC in 1883.
Singers FC was founded by Willie Stanley at the Lord Aylesford Inn in Hillfields on Monday, August 13th 1883 and he became the club's first secretary where he successfully applied for membership to the Birmingham and District Football Association.
Founder players include George Bowers, Henry Banks, Henry Hathaway, Samuel Heath, Francis Moseley, Andrew Poole and Herbert Turner who were all employees of the Singer Company, who manufactured bicycles at the time and went on to manufacture cars.
15 years later, the club changed it's name to Coventry City Football Club and moved to Highfield Road a year later.
The club successfully applied to join the Southern League in 1908 and in 1919, after the First World War, the club was voted into the Football League, where we have remained ever since.
Happy 130th Birthday Coventry City!
