Under-13s finish runners-up

City Under-13s lost 1-0 in the final to Charlton Athletic at St. Georges Park...

Coventry City Under-13s finished runners-up in the Premier League Category two national finals after losing the final to Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks claimed a narrow 1-0 victory at St. Georges Park with City conceding their first goal in the entire competition.

Having got past Birmingham City, Swansea City and Bristol City in the regional qualifiers, City went on to beat Millwall and Leeds United to book themselves a place in the final.

Unfortunately, the Sky Blues were unable to claim victory in the final but Academy Manager Gregor Rioch believes the side are a 'massive credit' to the club.

Rioch said: "It was a narrow defeat but the team should be very proud of what they have achieved. It has been an incredible effort to get to the final and we are delighted with their journey.

"Having conceded just once in the whole tournament in the final to a very good Charlton side, the team, the staff and the parents have a lot to be pleased about.

"Andy Crabtree (Youth Development Coach), Steve Lawson (part-time Under-13s coach) and the team are a massive credit to the club and we are looking forward to seeing how the group progresses."
