Sky Blues U21's lose at the Higgs

29 October 2012

Billy Daniels goal not enough for City against Leeds United...

Coventry City Under-21's were left frustrated after losing 2-1 to Leeds United at the Alan Higgs Centre.

The Sky Blues had a strong line-up for the home match, with first team players Kevin Kilbane, Reece Brown and Adam Barton all starting for Lee Carsley's side.

With Mark Robins and assistant manager Steve Taylor in attendance, the side were looking to impress in the hope of playing in this week's FA Cup First Round game against Arseley Town.

However, despite early pressure from City with shots from Shaun Jeffers and Roy O'Donovan, Leeds took the lead six minutes from half-time.

From a Leeds corner, taken by Patrick Antelmi, found Patrick Kisnorbo free in the area to fire home off the upright and give the away side a crucial advantage.

City continued to press forward ahead of the break with a 25-yard shot from Jeffers heading for the corner but deflected wide by Monty Gimpel in the 44th minute.

After the break, Coventry seemed determined to get into the match but the momentum was broken after Ryan Hall netted for Leeds in the 53rd minute.

Hall was played in behind the defence and he slotted home confidently after rounding keeper Chris Dunn to double the away side's lead.

Coventry pressed forward looking a way back into the side with shots from Kilbane and Henderson but got a reward for their efforts in stoppage time.

Both Billy Daniels and Joe Henderson were introduced to the game in the second half and they combined as Daniels turned in Henderson's pass.

However, it was not enough as City succumb to defeat at the Alan Higgs Centre.
