Robins welcomes new neighbours

The City boss visited Decathlon on Saturday...

Sky Blues manager Mark Robins extended the club’s welcome to their new neighbours on Saturday.

Robins visited the new Decathlon sports store on Arena Park in Coventry to be part of their Discover Decathlon Day, where young people could try 10 new sports for free.

This followed the visit of first team players David Bell and William Edjenguele to the store’s grand opening last week.

The City manager, who is keen to play a leading role in the club’s community programme, was pleased to see so many young people at the event.

“It’s important that we, as a football club, do everything we can to engage with local businesses and the local community,” said Robins.

“It was great to meet some of our supporters and hear their views and their experiences following the club.

“It was also nice to see so many young people taking the chance to try their hand at a new sport through the store’s Discover Decathlon Day.

“I was lucky enough to attend the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire sports awards last week so I got to see firsthand some of the sporting talent, and enthusiasm for sport, we have in this area.

“As the city’s only professional football club we have a great opportunity to help encourage young people to get involved in sport and we must do all we can to take that opportunity.

“Our players may all be professionals, but they started as keen youngsters who simply wanted to play because they loved the sport.”

John Butcher is Marketing Director of Decathlon UK and he has been impressed by the Sky Blues’ level of engagement with the local community.

John said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Coventry City to get people playing more sport more often in Coventry.

“Since we started working on the project to open a Decathlon store in Coventry we have been very impressed by how involved the football club is in promoting sport in the local community.

“We were delighted to welcome Mark at the store on Saturday and see so many people out enjoying sport in the car park at the Discover Decathlon Day and taking advantage of the chance to discuss with Mark about Coventry’s prospects for this season”
