City takes part in Poppy appeal launch

25 October 2012

Conor Thomas and Callum Wilson to help launch Poppy appeal in Coventry..

Two of the Sky Blues’ home-grown players will help kick-off the 2012 Poppy Appeal by taking part in a launch event in the city centre.

Conor Thomas and Callum Wilson will join hundreds of school children in releasing a red balloon each at midday tomorrow (Friday, October 26) in Broadgate, to remember the lives lost in Coventry during The Blitz.

The players will be joined by club mascot Sky Blue Sam and the club’s home fixture on Saturday, November 10 will be designated as Armed Forces Appreciation Day to mark Remembrance Day.

The League One tie against Scunthorpe United will kick off at 3pm and there will be a range of activities in honour of the armed forces.

Royal British Legion members, cadets and personnel will be parading around the pitch as the players are warming up. Cadets will also take part in a giant shirt shake on the pitch before kick-off and the guests will also be helping with the Guard of Honour. There will also be a minute’s silence before the game begins.

Armed forces members, as well as their friends and family, can purchase discounted tickets for the Scunthorpe game. For more information contact Kellie Murray at CCFC on 0844 873 6339.
