Mark Robins believes consistency is key ahead of the Colchester trip...

Coventry City manager Mark Robins says his players can’t wait to play against Colchester United after their 5-0 win over Hartlepool.

A brace from captain Carl Baker as well as goals from David McGoldrick, Franck Moussa and Adam Barton completed the rout for the Sky Blues at Victoria Park.

Coventry face another long away trip to the Weston Homes Community Stadium but Robins say his players can’t wait to get back out there and show what they can do.

The City boss said: “This sort of goes without saying but we have to take the confidence we gained from the performance at Hartlepool into the game against Colchester.

“People will now expect more after that performance as they showed what they can really do and they will be expected to produce that type of performance on a more regular basis now.

“They have to keep working and make sure they are on the top of their game. We have done a lot of work in training and I am beginning to see it become more fluid.

“We are not asking them to do anything they are not capable of and they are really looking forward to the next game. When you come of the back of a performance like that, every game becomes more enjoyable and I am sure confidence will be high tomorrow night.

“The amount of pass completion we had on Saturday was sky high and in the second half in particular, I thought we were excellent.

“But there is still room for improvement. The work isn’t done until we are up there and if we can develop on the performance at the weekend that would be exactly what we need. “

City had four different goal-scorers against Pools and had 21 shots throughout the game with 81% of those shots on target.

David McGoldrick scored his tenth goal in the league this season but Robins was delighted to see others helping out with the goal tally.

He added: “Well, I have said for a long time that there are plenty of goal-scorers in this squad and all they have to do is realise that.

“On Saturday, they started to believe that and they were all having a go at getting a goal and that is exactly what you want to see.

“Certainly in the league, that is the best performance and victory we have had in a long time. The way we went about the win was brilliant and hopefully we will continue to see us scoring plenty of goals.”
