Sky Blues kick off pre-season tour in style

Coventry City summer signing John Fleck got his own pre-season preparations off to a flying start with a first-half hat-trick at Dudgeon Park.

The Scottish midfielder, who signed for City on a free transfer this summer, slotted home two penalties either side of a close range finish with Jordan Clarke and Roy O'Donovan joining him on the scoresheet.

Boss Andy Thorn named a relatively young side for the clash with the Highland Premier outfit, starting five first-year professionals in Jordan Willis, Joe Henderson, Billy Daniels, Aaron Phillips and Will Roberts.

It was Daniels' pass that set Conor Thomas free in the first few seconds of the game which led to Fleck's first spot kick.

Thomas was played through and then brought down by Brora's David Hind, allowing Fleck to step up and send home 'keeper Robbie Taylor the wromg way.

Clarke then made it two when he twisted and turned with the ball just inside the home penalty area, his first shot blocked but his second taking a deflection as it looped up and over Taylor after 14 minutes.

Fleck made it 3-0 three minutes before the half hour when he latched onto a misplaced backpass and came together with the Brora shotstopper as he rushed towards goal.

The young Scot managed to free the ball in the melee though and tuck the ball into an empty net.

He then completed his hat-trick from the spot after some fine work from Roy O'Donovan who dribbled across the inside of the area before being brought down for a penalty, Fleck slotting home with no problem.

O'Donovan then wrapped up the scoring with the pick of the evening's goals seven minutes after the break, picking up a deep cross from Fleck and bringing the ball back just inside the penalty area before curling a 15-yarder into the top corner beyond Taylor's reach.
