Thorn on Rovers win

City boss wants to get stuck into the new season after pleasing end to Sky Blues pre-season campaign

Sky Blues boss Andy Thorn says his side has hit the ground running at the right time after the 2-1 friendly win over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Ground.

A Cody McDonald brace handed City their third consecutive pre-season win against the Gas in their last friendly before they kick off their 2012/13 season proper against Dagenham and Redbridge in the Capital One Cup first round on Tuesday.

Thorn said: "I was pleased with the performance, it was a good work out for the boys, we produced two good goals and we controlled the game for long periods as well so that was good to see.

"All in all it was a good performance and I think we have hit the ground running at the right time. We've achieved what we wanted to in pre-season, we've had some tough games but we've needed them.

"I've been chuffed to bits with pre-season. We've built up a bit of momentum at the right time and there's a good feeling in the dressing room because the boys know what they have to do. All that's left now is to make sure we execute start Tuesday."

Thorn also singled out McDonald for praise after his double, a second brace which took his pre-season goal tally to four from three games.

"Cody is someone who has not had a proper pre-season for two years but I think we'll see the best of Cody this year," Thorn said.

"He'll score alot of goals for us and we are just starting to see what he's about. He's quick, he's sharp he's a good finisher and the moves for both the goals were very good as well I thought.

The City gaffer also capped off his post-match interview with Sky Blues Player with a quick word on second half trialists midfielder Stephen Jennings and striker Peter Poloskei.

"It's something we will have to discuss with the powers that be, I thought Stephen did well. He got on the ball, he used it well and that was only his second 45 minutes of pre-season and we will also want to sit down and have a chat with Peter this week."
