Sky Blues snap up striker

David McGoldrick moves to the Ricoh Arena on loan from Forest...

Coventry City have signed striker David McGoldrick on loan from Nottingham Forest until January 2, 2013.

The 24-year-old was snapped up by Southampton at the age of 16 after beginning his league career with Notts County.

After five years at Southampton – including loan spells with Bournemouth and Port Vale, he joined Nottingham Forest in 2009.

Coventry City development director Steve Waggott said: “David has been a target for several weeks now but it looked, until today, like there was no possibility of bringing him here.

“When I was alerted that he might be available, I spoke to Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley, and we made the move and we have beaten several other clubs who were interested in him.

“He gives the club a very different option up front because he is quick and can get in behind defences so that will add to the manager’s options in attack.”

McGoldrick will be available for selection for tomorrow’s match at Crewe.
