Kilbane gets skipper's armband

City boss Andy Thorn names 'Killer' as his 2012/13 captain

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has confirmed that Kevin Kilbane will be his captain this season.

The 35-year-old, who signed on a free transfer in the summer, has worn the armband on several occasions during pre-season as well as in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup win at Dagenham and Redbridge and Thorn has confirmed he will continue in his duty as skipper.

Thorn said his experience, ability and character made him the ideal candidate.

The Sky Blues boss said: “You look at Kevin’s record and it speaks for itself. He’s played more than 100 times for the Republic of Ireland and that tells you a great deal.

“Since he’s been with us, he’s been an absolute model pro – a real example – so he is the perfect choice as captain. We saw that the other night at Dagenham.

“There were other candidates which, again, is testament to the fact that we have some really good lads in the dressing room. I have given it to Kevin and he will be a leader for us on and off the pitch but we will need a few of those this season.”

City’s new skipper added: “It’s a huge honour. There were a few candidates in that dressing room but once I was asked I was delighted to accept it on the spot.”
