City secure their first home point of the season with debut goal from Stephen Elliott
Coventry City secured their first home point of the season as Stephen Elliott netted on his debut.
The former Sunderland striker put the Sky Blues ahead before Nick Blackman equalised for the Blades in the last five minutes of the game.
Andy Thorn handed full debuts to summer signings Kevin Malaga, Steven Jennings and Elliott ahead of the game as he went in search of City's first three points of the season.
His search didn't start well with the away side having a good opportunity to take the lead within the first ten minutes. John Cofie was fouled by Reece Brown and from the resulting quick free-kick, Kevin McDonald found himself in acres of space in the area and his shot was cleared off the line by Richard Wood.
Coventry were spurred on by this clearance and soon after, Adam Barton almost made himself his first goal in a Coventry shirt. After nipping past Stephen Quinn he was able to find Baker on the left who crossed in for the midfielder, who had continued his run, and he headed narrowly wide in the 15th minute.
Despite City controlling much of the play during the first half, United were more direct with the pacey duo of Nick Blackman and John Cofie up front and it was Blackman who had his shot blocked after a good pass from Quinn in the 29th minute.
United captain Kevin McDonald also had a header on goal, but it was his namesake, Cody, who thought he won a penalty five minutes before half-time. Barton was able to collect the ball on the right and as he launched a deep cross, McDonald went down under pressure from Maguire but the referee was unimpressed.
City had the majority of possession and despite Stephen Elliott almost getting on the end of a Reece Brown cross, the sides went in level.
Andy Thorn obviously rallied his troops at half-time as they came out with renewed vigour and thought they went ahead in the 58th minute. Hussey swung his corner into the far post where Kevin Malaga rose highest and as the City fans began to celebrate, Kevin McDonald cleared the ball off the line.
Coventry continued to press forward and they were rewarded in the 62nd minute. Joe Murphy pumped a long ball up front to McDonald who flicked it on for Elliott and he smashed home to give City the lead.
Thorn still looked far from happy on the side of the pitch, regularly shouting at his players but United began to push for the equaliser in the last 10 minutes and found it through Nick Blackman. After a long ball down the left, substitute Miller whipped in a ball to the striker who turned it in from close range.
