REPORT: Sky Blues 1-4 Bristol City

Sky Blues exit Carabao Cup...

10 August 2022

The Sky Blues exit the Carabao Cup following a 4-1 defeat to Bristol City at the Pirelli Stadium.

Kal Naismith’s opener, along with a Tommy Conway double gave Bristol City a three-goal lead at half-time.

A subsequent fight back from the Sky Blues saw them close close on a few occasions, but it proved shy of overturning the deficit, seeing Mark Robins’ side depart from the competition.

The away side capitalised on their early pressure, taking the lead when Kal Naismith nodded home from a corner.

Tommy Conway nipped in to extend the Robins’ lead, soon after, and the attacker grabbed his brace on the half hour mark with a deflected effort.

Tayo Adaramola showed promise in the opening exchanges and came close to pulling one back for the Sky Blues after a neat one-two with Kasey Palmer was followed by a blocked shot.

Fabio Tavares pressed hard from the front, nearly latching onto a cross whipped across the face of goal before jinking inside and firing low to force a save from Daniel Bentley.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-3 Bristol City

The Sky Blues came out the blocks with a rejuvinated energy, testing the Robins' defence in-behind on several occassions.

On the back of a triple change, City clawed one back when substitute Jake Bidwell picked out Jamie Allen, who finished sublimely with a half volley from the edge of the box.

Ryan Howley nearly opened his Coventry City account, ten minutes from time, latching onto Martyn Waghorn's pin-point corner, but the youngster's header sailed just high of the bar.

The Robins sealed the tie in the dying embers of the match when Andreas Weimann finsihed clinically to add Bristol's fourth.
