REPORT: Sky Blues 1-1 MK Dons

City share the points...

11 January 2020

The Sky Blues had to settle for a point against MK Dons as Sam McCallum’s first minute opener was cancelled out by substitute Carlton Morris’ strike fifteen minutes from the end.

City flew out of the blocks as Sam McCallum fired home a delightful volley from 25 yards out putting the Sky Blues 1-0 up inside the first minute.

The ball fell to McCallum outside of the box and as he took the ball down on his chest, the ball bounced invitingly in front of him and his shot flew past Lee Nicholls into the bottom corner.

Straight from the restart, MK Dons put pressure on Marko Marosi and forced the ‘keeper into an error as he was dispossessed in the corner of his box, however Marosi scrambled back to his line and produced a smart save before the ball was cleared.

Just after the half hour mark it was that combination of Jordan Shipley and Matty Godden linking up again as a chipped ball forward was bought down Shipley and flicked to Godden, who returned the favour and teed up Shipley, but his effort from the edge of the box was tipped around the post.

On the stroke of half time Nicholls was called into action again as Fankaty Dabo drove down the right hand side and pulled the ball back to the edge of the box to Liam Walsh who let fly with his right foot, but the ‘keeper got down well to his left and palmed the ball away.

MK Dons started the second half on the front foot and Rhys Healey created an early chance as he weaved his way through the city defence and curled a left footed shot just wide of Marosi’s goal.

Ten minutes into the second half Dabo got forward again, and clipped a deep cross to the far post but despite Godden’s best efforts he could not get on the end of the delivery and he ball flashed across the face of goal.

Godden came close to finding the net again after 67 minutes as substitute Callum O’Hare beat his man and slid the ball into the patch of Godden however his effort from a tight angle was smothered by Nicholls.

The ‘keeper was called into action just minutes later as a similar move resulted in second half sub Max Biamou being played in down the same side as Godden just minutes earlier, but Nicholls was again equal to the shot from the angle as he saved low with his feet.

It was then The Don’s turn to attack as Alex Gilbey found space down the right and fired a cross come shot across the face of goal which whistled inches past the post.

Fifteen minutes from the end Carlton Morris equalised for MK Dons as a cross from the right was not cleared and the frontman drilled the ball into the net giving Marosi no chance.
