PREVIEW: Notts County v Coventry City - The Sky Blues head to Meadow Lane just one game from Wembley

City face County in the second leg of their play-off semi-final...

17 May 2018

Venue: Meadow Lane

Competition: SkyBet League Two

Date: Friday, 18th May

Kick-off: 7.45pm (Live on SkySports Football)

The Sky Blues head to Meadow Lane for the second leg of their Play-Off semi-final against Notts County.

The two sides fought out a 1-1 draw in the first leg last week and, with no away goal rule, both sides are just a win away from Wembley.

City head into this one facing a Kevin Nolan side who have lost just two games at home all season.

The Magpies have no new injury concerns for this one with loanee Mason Bennet still injured. Though Jonathan Forte limped off in the first leg, Kevin Nolan has said that the striker is fit to play.

Mark Robins has only the usual individuals in the medical room with Peter Vincenti, Tony Andreu (ACL) and Jodi Jones (ACL) all continuing their recoveries. Defender Tom Davies misses this game, plus the next two EFL matches, after being given a three match suspension following an FA violent conduct charge after an incident in the 21st minute of the Ricoh Arena clash.

The Opponents

The Magpies have three former Sky Blues amongst their ranks. Richard Duffy made 64 appearances over four loan spells with the club, including 34 appearances in the 2005-06 season where the Sky Blues finished 8th in the Championship.

Alongside Duffy in the first-team are Carl Dickinson and Jon Stead who both enjoyed shorter loan periods at the Ricoh Arena. Dickinson made six appearances at left-back while Stead found the net twice on-loan from Ipswich in 2010.

Up-front with Stead in County’s attack are experienced heads Lewis Alessandra and Jonathan Forte along with former Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi. The Nigerian made 312 top-flight appearances in the North-East, scoring 53 goals along the way, including 15 in Europe. Last season Ameobi managed four goals in League Two.

Premier League and League Cup winner with Manchester United, Alan Smith has been a regular since moving to Meadow Lane in 2014 and even took charge of the side for a single game after the sacking of John Sheridan.

Manager Quotes

Nolan: “The only pressure we’ll be feeling is what we put on ourselves because, like Coventry, now we’re here we want to get to Wembley."

Robins: "Tom Davies has been stupid and he has apologised. He has hurt himself big time. If we progress then he misses the final and if we do not then he misses the start of next season."

Nolan: “It’s going to be difficult again on Friday night but I’m looking forward to locking horns with Mark Robins once again and hopefully getting over the line."

Robins: "We need to send our supporters home happy. It will be a good game and it might even go all the way. We need to be prepared for that."
