Posted on: Wed 19 May 2010

COVENTRY Lord Mayor councillor Jack Harrison has added his stamp of approval to Coventry City's international supporters' club Sky Blues International.

Coun Harrison, of Lower Stoke ward, said Sky Blues International, which recently surpassed 150 members, bridged continents for football fans who share a passion for the Sky Blues.

Sky Blues International, supporters club for City fans based outside of the UK, took on its first members towards the end of 2009 and in just a few short months has amassed over 150 members.

The club also recently held a day for international supporters on Easter weekend this season, including helping organize discount air travel for far-flung fans, to help them get to the Ricoh Arena for the Easter Saturday clash against Derby County.

Adding his endorsement of Sky Blues International, Coun Harrison said: "Coventry is at the very heart of this country and the life and spirit of our city echoes around the world in a variety of ways. The success of Sky Blues Internationalreveals a passion for our local football club that bridges continents.

"Many of the members who find themselves dotted around Australasia, Asia, the Americas, Africa and Europe are drawn back to the city of their roots or origins through the opportunity to express and share a love of the Sky Blues.

"This summer, many people from Coventry will be making the journey to South Africa for the World Cup, the greatest football festival of all. My wife and I recently enjoyed visiting our son Paul who lives and works in the country and who is also a member of Sky Blues International. We know at first hand what a wonderful experience it is going to be for all those making the trip.

"I am also keenly aware of the opportunity it will present for the people of this city, Coventry City supporters and others, to meet and make new friends. We know that there are many Sky Blues supporters in South Africa, especially in Cape Town.

"Sky Blues International is waiting to welcome you all and to put you in touch with visitors from back home. There is advice to be shared, there are friendships to be made, so let's all sing together this summer."
