Kevin Kyle continued his return from an ankle injury with a goal as City's reserves earned a 1-1 draw against Wolves at Liberty Way.

Kyle and Julian Gray both gained valuable match practice after injury in a closely contested match, while defender Stuart Giddings returned from a long standing hip injury as a second-half substitute.

Scottish striker Kyle put forward his claims for a first-team starting spot against Burnley on Saturday by putting the Sky Blues ahead in the tenth minute, when he took advantage of a mistake from visiting goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

A long ball forward from Lee Hildreth bounced awkwardly on a bobbly surface and looped over Ikeme, leaving Kyle with the simple task of volleying into an empty net from 10 yards.

The home side thought they had doubled their advantage just before the half hour mark when Academy starlet Andy Ritchie, who partnered Kyle in attack, fired into the bottom corner only to be denied by an offside flag.

But Wolves, whose only clear-cut opportunity of the first-half saw Danny Ireland push away a low shot from Mark Salmon, came into the game after the break and deservedly levelled matters in the 50th minute.

Former Ipswich defender Jamie Clapham found himself with only Ireland to beat after linking up well with Liam Hughes in the area and he poked the ball under the City keeper from close-range.

The home side were then twice indebted to the woodwork as both Hughes and Salmon sent efforts crashing against the crossbar while Stuart Elliott skewed wide.

But City almost nicked a winner against the run of play late on when pacey substitute Ashley Cain darted into the area before seeing his shot from a tight angle beaten away by Wolves substitute keeper Graham Stack.
