Reserves beat Baggies 3-2

Posted on: Tue 27 Nov 2007

The Sky Blues reserve team continued their recent good form with a 3-2 victory over West Brom at Nuneaton Borough's Liberty Way Stadium.

Goals from Donovan Simmonds, Khalilou Fadiga and Adam Walker were enough to secure the three-points for Steve Ogrizovic's men against the Baggies, who replied through David Worrall and Ricky Nicholls.

Young striker Simmonds set City on their way in the 22nd minute when he converted Fadiga's pin-point cross from the left for his fifth goal in the Pontin's Holidays League this season.

The post denied Baggies striker Josh Knight an equaliser moments later while Michael Nardiello also shot wide for the visitors.

Former Sky Blues goalkeeper Luke Steele then thwarted Simmonds when through on goal shortly before the half-time interval.

The game ebbed and flowed in the second-half as both teams struggled to find the breakthrough.

But the floodgates opened again in the 74th minute when substitute Reis Ashraf beat Steele to the ball and centred for Fadiga, who is training with the Sky Blues as he returns from a long-standing Achilles injury, to tap into an empty net.

West Brom reduced the deficit with six minutes remaining when winger Worrall beat City 'keeper Danny Ireland.

But Academy midfielder Walker put the result beyond doubt just seconds later when he confidently curled the ball over Steele.

Nevertheless, there was still time for substitute Nicholls to grab a last minute consolation as his 25-yarder found the top-corner.
