RESERVES Coventry 3 Huddersfield 0
Coventry City's Reserves recorded their second win in succession with a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Nuneaton Borough's Liberty Way Stadium on Monday night.
Kevin Kyle scored twice against the Yorkshire side, while Donovan Simmonds also netted in a comprehensive result for Steve Ogrizovic's men.
The Sky Blues fielded a strong side for the clash, with Dave McNamee, Michael Hughes, Ellery Cairo, Robert Page and Kyle all featuring for the second string. Club skipper Arjan de Zeeuw was a late withdrawal with a minor back problem.
The home side started brightly, with Kevin Thornton curling his shot past the keeper after just three minutes, only to see the ball bounce off the top of the crossbar.
Kyle headed over the woodwork with 11 on the clock while five minutes later, Liam Francis saw his shot fly over the target as City threatened.
But Coventry did make the breakthrough on 20 minutes. Good work by the forward line saw Simmonds slip the ball through to Kyle, who finished well past the keeper to give the Sky Blues the lead.
It could have been 1-1 six minutes later when the visitors pressed, only for Danny Ireland to make an excellent fingertip save from the head of Huddersfield legend Andy Booth.
The Sky Blues made it 2-0 eight minutes into the second half. Some excellent play from Francis saw him centre the ball for Cairo, who in turn headed down to Simmonds - the striker making no mistake as he finished low to double the deficit.
On the hour, Coventry completed the scoring - Kyle tapping in from close range to round off a dominant home performance.
