BEN Turner used the 2008/09 season to shake off the moniker of young and upcoming prospect to a fully fledged member of the Sky Blues first team.

The Birmingham-born centre-half's performances in 2008/09 earned him the club's Young Player of the Year award.

He was handed his City debut as a late substitute during the penultimate game of the 2005/06 season against Stoke and completed his full debut in an FA Cup tie against Bristol City in 2006/07.

A first league start followed in City's final home match of that season against West Bromwich Albion before he gained his first England under-19 cap in a UEFA European Championship match against Czech Republic.

After impressing in the reserves, he was thrown in at the deep end against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carling Cup during 2007/08 and kept his place in the side up until suffering a hamstring injury in January 2008.

He recovered for 2008/09 though, making more first team appearances than he had in any other preceding campaign and earning himself a two-year contract extension which keeps him at the club until June 2011.
