BIRCHALL moved to the Ricoh Arena less than 48-hours before the Sky Blues kicked off the 2006/07 campaign at home to Sunderland and was thrown straight into the action against the Black Cats.
The Trinidad and Tobago international shone at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, putting in an impressive display against an England midfield containing the likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
After moving from Vale Park, where he bagged 9 goals in 94 appearances, for a fee of £300,000, the 22-year-old Staffordshire-born man made a good start to life at City, netting his first goal for the club with a fine long-range effort in a 3-0 home win over Norwich.
He found himself in and out of the side following the departure of Micky Adams, though, and began the 2007/08 season on loan at St Mirren before returning to the Ricoh Arena in December.
