STRIKER Gary McSheffrey rejoined Coventry City in summer 2010 on a one-year contract with a one-year option when his contract expired at Birmingham City.

The 27-year-old forward, who was born in the city and came up through the ranks with the Sky Blues Academy, was out of contract at Birmingham City.

He joined Birmingham in 2006 after hitting more than 50 league and cup goals for Coventry City after making his debut as a 16-year-old against Aston Villa.

In his first season with Birmingham he helped them win promotion to the Premier League and has since had loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

McSheffrey made his first team debut for Coventry in 1999 after showing great promise in the club's youth ranks.

He spent spells on loan IK Brage, Stockport County and Luton Town before coming to the fore as a regular first team player for Coventry.

McSheffrey began primarily as a central attacker but was later deployed on the left-side, with great effect.

He played a major role in keeping Coventry City in the Championship during the last season at Highfield Road - scoring twice in the last ever game there. He was also a key figure in the first season at the Ricoh Arena, in which the club achieved its highest position since relegation from the top flight.
