Stephen Hughes

Sky Blues Captain Stephen Hughes is calling on Coventry to continue the standard of performance which saw them overcome Crewe 3-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend.

The midfielder was part of the side which progressed through to the Fourth Round courtesy of an improved display from City after a turbulent week which saw Manager Peter Reid leave the Club 48 hours before the match.

And Hughes has urged his teammates for a repeat performance when they travel to face league leaders Ipswich Town at Portman Road this weekend.

"It has been a difficult week, which has been well documented. But the lads knew what we had to do, it was a big game for us and we came out fighting under difficult circumstances and we played well and deserved to win the game.

"Everyone's been quite reflective over the past week. Peter Reid bought me to the club, so obviously I'm disappointed he's left. It's not nice seeing any manager go but that's the game we're in unfortunately. It's hard at times and you've just got to get on with it and do your job as a professional footballer.

"We'll let other people decide on the stuff off the park but we enjoy playing football and that's what we're paid to do and we hoped it showed against Crewe.

"You've got to take heart from performance and results like that and hopefully that will transmit into the league and we'll look forward to taking on Ipswich away.

"We'll carry on until the end of the season we're not in a particularly good position in the league and we want to rectify that but there's only 17, 18 points left and we'll try and pick up as many points as we can."
