NEWS: Sky Blues secure loan striker

Posted on: Wed 25 Jan 2012

COVENTRY City have signed talented Manchester City striker Alex Nimely on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who was born in Liberia and has represented England at under-20 level, signed a four-year contract with Manchester City in 2010 after proving to be a prolific scorer as an Academy player.

His loan spell at Coventry, after a short stint with Middlesbrough earlier in the season, is seen as the next phase of the promising youngster's development.

Nimely made his first team debut for Manchester City in 2010 in the Premier League and has also represented the current league leaders in Europe.

After opting to play for England at international level, he scored their only goal in the 2009 Under-20 World Cup.

Coventry manager Andy Thorn said: "This a great signing for us. He is a hot young prospect and we have been looking at him for some time.

"He will be a good option for us up front and we look forward to having him with us for the next few months.

"Manchester City think extremely highly of Alex and we are delighted that they see the benefit he will get from being here until the end of the season.

"He will experience first team football which will help his development while at the same time he will boost our squad."
