NEWS: Tickets for Schools anniversary!

Posted on: Mon 06 Sep 2010

COVENTRY City's Tickets for Schools scheme marks its one-year anniversary this month ahead of the Sky Blues' weekend clash with Leicester City at the Ricoh Arena.

The scheme, which has seen the club take the ticket office to dozens of schools in the Coventry and Warwickshire area, welcomes its latest set of young visitors travel to the Ricoh this weekend for the clash with the Foxes, the first home fixture for the Sky Blues since pupils went back to school after the summer holidays.

More than 500 tickets have been sold for the weekend M69 derby tie through the scheme which plans to spread its wings even further following a successful first season.

Ticket for Schools, driven by club volunteers Pat Abel and Cheryl Bates with the support of the club ticketing staff, has in fact visited 81 out of 85 primary schools in the Coventry and Warwickshire area over the past 12 months, selling tickets to more than 8,000 schoolchildren and their families.

Following the success of the scheme throughout 2010/11, Tickets for Schools will now be branching out into the Nuneaton and Bedworth and Rugby areas to encourage children from the surrounding towns to support the Sky Blues.

Mrs. Abel said: "When this scheme was started it was a truly unique idea and the response we have had from schools in the area has been absolutely fantastic.

"We are now in a position where the schools in the Coventry and Warwickshire areas know us well and continually ask us to come back because their schoolchildren enjoy the visits from ourselves and the Coventry City players so much.

"The stories we get from teachers on our visits really make this scheme so worthwhile and to know we are perhaps recruiting the next generation of Sky Blues supporters as well is a fantastic feeling."
