FREE: Boothroyd playing the seconds game

Posted on: Thu 19 Aug 2010

COVENTRY City manager Aidy Boothroyd says he wants to take each game this season second by second in a bid to build consistent form.

The Sky Blues battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a point in a their 2-2 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday and Boothroyd said while his side's display was disappointing, he was pleased at the character and never-say-die attitude that allowed the Sky Blues to fight back.

"For me it's defeinitely a second-by-second thing," he said.

"If we can concentrate on doing the right things second-by-second then the minutes and hours will take care of themselves and before you know you are putting a consistent run together.

"We are starting to get there but I don't think this team will be anywhere near as good as it can be until January and February time where everyone knows what everyone else is going to do.

"We have had a steady start though and I think that's important because if you look after your home form and try and pick up some points away you can put yourself in a fantastic position."

Boothroyd also said it was important that his side enter the approaching international break in a positive frame of mind.

"Of course you want to maintain a good start because you want to go into the international break and pick up the papers and say "that's a good start".

"The international break is the first drinks station if you like where you stop for a bit and take stock of things and have a little breather.

"But it's Derby County first, we will go all out for that and see if we can get the three points and if we can do that I'm sure the next game against Millwall will take care of itself."
