FREE: Cameron delighted at debut

Posted on: Tue 10 Aug 2010

COVENTRY City defender Nathan Cameron says he wants to keep doing the right things so manager Aidy Boothroyd will keep picking him.

The 18-year-old, in his first year as a professional, made his full league debut for the Sky Blues in their opening day 2-0 win over Portsmouth at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday.

And the Birmingham-born centre half said he did not want to rest on his laurels and wanted to play in as many games as possible.

"I've worked hard in pre-season and tried to do all of the right things and the manager has put me in the team so if I can keep working hopefully he can keep picking me," he said.

"It's my first year as a professional so I want to get as much experience as possible and it's my job to give the manager something to think about when he is picking his team so hopefully I can keep doing that."

Saturday's clean sheet over Pompey served as an advert for the club's academy from which both Cameron and central defensive partner Ben Turner both graduated from.

"It's good for Birmingham where we are both from and it's good for the academy because we obviously both graduated through there and it was great to be playing alongside Ben."

Cameron also underlined the tough test that awaits the Sky Blues when they face Morecambe away in tonight's Carling Cup first round clash.

The youngster made his first team debut as a substitute for the Sky Blues in the same fixture last season at the Ricoh Arena where City went down 1-0 to Hartlepool United after extra time.

"I don't know if I will play yet obviously but I want to because I want to play every game," Cameron added.

"It will be a tough test because we went out of the Carling Cup in the first round last season so we want to do better this time around"
