NEWS: Boothroyd in 'keeper search

Posted on: Mon 09 Aug 2010

COVENTRY City manager Aidy Boothroyd is working against the clock to bring in a keeper for the club's Carling Cup tie at Morecambe tomorrow.

The Sky Blues have until three hours before kick-off to make a signing since Keiren Westwood is preparing for the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Argentina on Wednesday.

But if the emergency loan deal is not secured in time then Boothroyd will have no worries about giving Academy keeper Michael Quirke his senior debut in the first round match.

"I named Michael on the bench for our Championship match against Portsmouth on Saturday and I would not have named him among the substitutes if I didn't have faith in him," Boothroyd said.

"I think I have shown that I am not afraid to blood youngsters in the first team if they are ready."
