COVENTRY City kick off their Carling Cup campaign on Tuesday night at League Two outfit Morecambe after a perfect opening day in the league.

Freddy Eastwood netted both goals in a 2-0 win over Portsmouth at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday to hand boss Aidy Boothroyd a flawless start to his competitive career as Coventry City manager.

OVERVIEW

MORECAMBE kicked off their 2010/11 npower League Two campaign with a 2-0 defeat away to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

Sammy McIlroy's side earned a play-off spot in League Two last season only to have their hopes of promotion ended by a 7-2 two-leg defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge who went on to win in the League Two play-off final.

The Carling Cup clash with the Sky Blues will be a memorable one for the Shrimps as the clash marks the first ever fixture in their brand new stadium the Globe Arena.

HEAD TO HEAD

TUESDAY night is a night for firsts between the two clubs.

Not only will the clash serve as the opening for Morecambe's brand new stadium but it will also be the first time the two clubs have EVER met in a competitive fixture.

CONNECTIONS

COVENTRY City midfielder Carl Baker once plied his trade for Morecambe, making 44 competitive appearances and scoring 11 goals for the Shrimps.

He achieved that in one season with the club during 2007/08, his performances attracting the attention of Stockport who then signed him the following summer.

Wycombe Wanderers 2 Morecambe 0

MORECAMBE were handed a frustrating start to their 2010/11 campaign after goals from Scott Rendell and Jon-Paul Pittman handed hosts Wycombe all the points.

Rendell slotted home a 36th minute spot kick for Wanderers and Pittman made sure of the win with a fine effort from the edge of the area with six minutes to go.

TEAM NEWS

Coventry City remain without long term absentees Gary Deegan and Isaac Osbourne while Aron Gunnarsson (back), Richard Wood (neck) and Michael McIndoe (back) could be available for selection.

Morecambe boss Sammy McIlroy is set to hand home debuts to several new signings after four new faces featured against Wycombe Wanderers.

Chris Shuker, Paul Scott, Adam Rundle and Chris McCready all started the match and will hope to keep their places.

Former Tranmere midfielder Shuker last week signed a one-year deal following his release from Prenton Park and McIlroy is expecting big things of him.

The Shrimps manager said: "Chris is an experienced player who will bring a lot to the squad.''
