FREE: Fans have something to shout about

Posted on: Mon 09 Aug 2010

COVENTRY City boss Aidy Boothroyd said he was delighted to give the Sky Blues fans something to shout about after his side opened their 2010/11 season with a 2-0 win over Portsmouth at the Ricoh Arena.

Striker Freddy Eastwood netted a goal in each half to get City off to the perfect start and Boothroyd said he thought the game showed signs of their hard work in pre-season coming to fruition.

"We've gotten off to a good start against a very good team, we started quickly and created trouble for Portsmouth early on and I'm especially pleased for Freddy to have got his goals," Boothroyd said.

"I thought his contribution to the team today was absolutely outstanding, he was doing the important things and working hard without the ball and he got his just desserts for that.

"We've still got a long way to go with nine months slog of game after game but I'm excited about it.

"We've got some good players who will make it tough for each other so we just need to get ourselves organised for the next game."
