FREE: McSheffrey wants to get going

Posted on: Wed 04 Aug 2010

COVENTRY City forward Gary McSheffrey says he has had his eye set firmly on the Sky Blues' season opener against Portsmouth on August 7 since he re-signed for the Sky Blues this summer.

The 27-year-old could feature in the Sky Blues' final pre-season friendly at home to West Bromwich Albion this Saturday and he said he was looking forward to trying to put the final touches to his preparations before Aidy Boothroyd's side start playing for points next week.

"To be honest I can't wait for the chance to put on a City shirt again at the Ricoh so come August 7 I hope I can be selected, play well and hopefully help get us off to a good start with a win," he said.

"Pre-season is all about fitness and all the lads are in good shape but there is still always a competitive edge in friendlies and I expect it will be the same against West Brom on Saturday.

"They are a quality team and they will want to come here and play their brand of football so it will be a good test for us.

"Next week though will be totally different because the first game against Portsmouth will be just around the corner so there is a totally different feel to it and I can't wait to get started."
