VUVUZELAS will be not be permitted at the Ricoh Arena during the 2010/11 season.

After close consultation with its safety team, Coventry City and the Ricoh Arena have decided that the instruments will not be allowed into the stadium.

A senior member of the club's management team said: "A series of other clubs have made the decision to ban vuvuzelas but we wanted to look into it ourselves and not have a knee-jerk reaction.

"We did see the potential benefits of allowing them in but there were too many issues surrounding the instrument to make it possible from a health and safety point of view as well as the comfort and enjoyment of other supporters.

"Obviously, all decisions can be reviewed but for now it stands that supporters won't be able to bring vuvuzelas to the matches.

"We are, however, looking into the possibility of selling an alternative instrument that is not as big or loud in the club shop because we want fans to come along, have fun and generate an atmosphere."
