ST NICOLAS Primary School in Nuneaton played host to two of Coventry City FC's brightest stars last week to celebrate the last week of the summer term.
Defenders Richard Wood and Jordan Clarke visited the School on Windemere Avenue as part of the club's partnership with the health food retailer Holland & Barrett, based locally in Nuneaton.
Around 100 children from years 5 and 6 were shown how to train like a pro in a skills session which covered shooting, dribbling and passing. The two first team players were then quizzed on everything from how they celebrated a goal to the foods they eat to keep fit, before posing for photos and signing autographs.
Holland & Barrett has been working in partnership with Coventry City FC for the past four years and this latest schools visit is part of a wider programme which helps promote healthy eating. The company's two mascots, Mr Holland & Mr Barrett, were also on hand to show off their football skills and provide healthy snacks for the children to take home.
Phil Geary, Holland & Barrett's Group Director of Marketing, said: "I live and work in Nuneaton, and it's fantastic for us to be able to give something back to the local community and help inspire the next generation. By working closely with Coventry City's players and fitness coaches right through to the club's Community Programme, we aim to show how good nutrition plays a key part in success."
Nathan Kosky, commercial director of Coventry City, said: "Our Community Programme is a great way to involve local schools and hopefully give the kids an experience that they won't forget - you never know who the stars of tomorrow could be if they work hard."
The Holland & Barrett group is based in Nuneaton, Warwickshire and has more than 1,000 stores across the UK and Ireland, including the Holland & Barrett, GNC, Natures Way and Julian Graves brands.
