FREE: Boothroyd pleased with win

Posted on: Tue 27 Jul 2010

COVENTRY City manager Aidy Boothroyd said Saturday's 2-0 friendly win away to Walsall provided just the kind of test the Sky Blues needed.

Freddy Eastwood opened his pre-season account with the opener after an hour with Shaun Jeffers adding a second in second halkf injury time and Boothroyd said the win at the Banks' Stadium was a positive exercise in keeping a cool head.

"You want these kinds of games because they test you and I thought we performed admirably against a tough outfit," he said.

"Their two front guys gave us a tough time but we overcame that and kept a clean sheet in what was a good and really even game.

"It's one of those games that you need when you're about to go into a season where you know you're going to be tested. We threw a few punches and they threw a few back."

Boothroyd also said he was pleased for Eastwood after he netted his first goal of pre-season.

"Freddy took his goal well and I'm pleased for him because he's working really hard, chasing down, trying to play off the shoulder and get in between defenders.

"We still have a little way to go yet in terms of the depth of the squad in terms of our aspirations this season but when you're under pressure at times, like we were against Walsall, you need to be able to be able to deal with it and ride it out so that was pleasing."
