COVENTRY City midfielder Sammy Clingan says he is enjoying soaking up the thick and fast nature of the Sky Blues' pre-season preparations.

The Northern Irish playmaker got a full 90 minutes under his belt in the 1-0 win over Northampton Town last night and he said he was looking forward to the rest of the pre-season clashes to further improve his fitness.

"It was a good performance by the lads against Northampton and I thought we looked really solid," he said.

"Pre-season has been going really well so far and I'm really enjoying and I'm looking forward to Walsall on Saturday.

"The games are coming thick and fast but that's good because that's what you want. We've been solid at the back so far and we've been keeping clean sheets and long may that continue.

"We know you don't win anything in pre-season but winning is still a good thing because it breeds confidence so hopefully we can continue that at the weekend."
