BOOTHROYD: Taking it up a level

Posted on: Wed 21 Jul 2010

COVENTRY City boss Aidy Boothroyd says the time is now right to start adjusting his pre-season preparations as the Sky Blues head to Sixfields to take on Northampton Town in their latest friendly clash.

Boothroyd has had his squad on rotations of 60-minute and 30-minute spells in their previous two friendlies against Nuneaton Town and Hinckley United and he said the time was now right to start putting 90 minutes of work into his players' legs.

"It's important now that we start getting the players used to 90 minutes again," he said.

"We had them on hour and half hour rotations for the first two friendlies so all of the lads could gradually get some minutes under their belt.

"Now we will up that work rate and I will pick a team that will give respect to Northampton because they are a good side and it will be a tough game away from home.

"We will go there and make sure we concentrate on digging in and getting a result."
