MORRISON: Still a long way to go

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

COVENTRY City striker Clinton Morrison says there is still plenty of time for the Sky Blues correct last night's wobble in their hunt for a play-off place.

Chris Coleman's side went down 2-1 to Cardiff City at the Ricoh Arena in controversial fashion after referee Steve Hooper awarded the visitors a penalty for handball two minutes from time.

Morrison had handed the Sky Blues the lead on 31 minutes although Chris Burke levelled for the Bluebirds five minutes before half time, Peter Whittingham then slotting home the winning spot kick for Dave Jones' side in the 88th minute.

But Morrison said one disappointing result was not th end of the Sky Blues season and that they were now firmly focused on Sunday's televised derby clash with Leicester City at the Walkers Stadium on Sunday.

"We looked a bit tired but we still managed to match one of the best teams in the Championship and we were unfortunate not to come away with anything," he said.

"That's the way it goes sometimes. The lads never felt it was a penalty but the referee gave it so there's not much you can do about it.

"It was tough for us to concede before half time as well but I think overall a draw would have been a fair result.

"We're still only five points off the top six which isn't a million miles away and we've got another massive game against Leicester on Sunday.

"It's a big derby as well and if you can't get yourself up for that then you shouldn't be in football.

"All of us will be up for it because we want to make sure you don't let the season die out. There's still nine games to go and we are still in with a chance.
