COLEMAN: Every game a cup final

Posted on: Thu 11 Mar 2010

COVENTRY City manager Chris Coleman says he will be treating every game between now and the end of the season as a cup final.

The Sky Blues continued their late push for a play-off place last weekend with a third consecutive league win, beating Peterborough United 1-0 at London Road.

And Coleman said he was no longer interested in performances provided the Sky Blues got the right result at the end of the game.

"We've seen the condition of a lot of the pitches which have not been great because of the hard winter we've had so pretty football is not something we can worry too much about," he said.

"At this stage of the season it is all about the points no matter how we get them and every game between now and the end of the season is a cup final for us.

"I don't want any complacency because there are only a couple of months of the season left. If anything we need to work even harder and be even sharper.

"If your legs are tired, tell me and I will put someone else in but we need to be at from the first whistle and be sure at the end of the game that we can look at each other and say that we have given everything we've got because now is the time we need to do that.

"We know Plymouth is going to be an extremely tough game for us at the weekend because they are fighting to get out of the relegation zone and we know how dangerous they are because there is so little difference between the teams in this league and anybody can beat anybody so we know we must not take anything for granted.

"The lads have raised the bar in training and we must continue to do that and keep our focus first and foremost on continuing to pick up points."
