COLEMAN: Lads are hungry for it

Posted on: Fri 26 Feb 2010

COVENTRY City boss Chris Coleman says his Sky Blues side have been substituting top-six talk with chats about staying hungry for the remainder of the season.

City sit six points outside the play-off spots heading into this weekend's home clash with Scunthorpe United but Coleman said his squad were not getting carried away and have been instead choosing to talk about their strong appetite to climb as high as they can in the Championship table.

The Sky Blues have won five from their last six games at home and are coming off the back of an impressive win away to Crystal Palace last weekend, and Coleman said it was no coincidence that the improvement in results was running parallel with a fit squad.

"It was a great three points against Palace on Saturday because it was another clean sheet and another win from a very gritty performance," Coleman said.

"Scunthorpe will be another game entirely and I have no doubt they will ask us a different set of questions but the one we have to ask ourselves is at 5pm when we need to ask if we have done all we can. If the answer is yes then we will get a positive result.

"The lads have been superb lately and it's been a while since I have been disappointed with a performance so all credit to them.

"It's because of the way they have played and the way they have been approaching games that we are knocking on the door of the top six.

"We are six points away from the play-offs and it could be three points if we have a positive weekend this weekend but we are not actively talking about it.

"You have to look at the position we are in and accept that it will be talked about but among ourselves the main topic of conversation is our appetite for it at the moment which has been superb so we want to continue that on Saturday."
