BAKER: Boys have got tunnel vision

Posted on: Fri 26 Feb 2010

COVENTRY City midfielder Carl Baker says both himself and his team mates are staying firmly focused on the job at hand despite inevitable talk of a late push up the Championship table.

The Sky Blues currently sit six points outside of the top six places in the league after a recent impressive spurt of results which has seen them win five of their last six games at home, compounded last weekend by a vital away win at Crystal Palace.

The 27-year-old said talk of the play-offs had been a topic of conversation in the Sky Blues' dressing room but he added it was not at a cost of the squad losing their focus.

"Everyone is buzzing at the moment and yes there has been a bit of talk about the play-offs but the lads know the work ethic that has got us into this position and we all know that we need to concentrate on doing what we have been doing," Baker said.

"We are not getting too far ahead of ourselves but at the same time I think it's good because it helps motivate you even more.

"I've been loving my time here to be fair and Saturday is even more my favourite day now than it was before because the gaffer has kept calling my name out on the team sheet and it's meant I've been able to play in a stadium like the Ricoh which has been unbelievable.

"It's been a bit surreal to be honest these past few weeks because we've been playing well at home and then I find myself running out onto the pitch at St James' Park to play for Coventry so I can't describe how that felt.

"The lads are all making sure they are not looking too far ahead though because we know we have been getting some good results and we need to carry that on against Scunthorpe on Saturday.

"I saw the game against Scunthorpe earlier in the season because it was on Sky and I think any team will look for a bit of revenge in the second fixture having lost the first one so the lads are all well up for it."
